Africa's Global Bank

We are the U.S. arm of United Bank for Africa, the leading sub-Saharan African bank with over 20 million customers, 20,000 employees, and 1,000 branches across 20 African countries. Headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria, UBA has been providing superior financial services to small businesses, corporations, governments, institutions, and individuals globally since 1948.

The British and French Bank Limited (BFB) commenced business in Nigeria in 1948.
Following Nigeria’s independence from Great Britain, United Bank for Africa was incorporated in 1961 to take over BFB.
UBA listed its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 1970, becoming the first Nigerian bank to undertake an Initial Public Offering (IPO).
UBA America was established as a representative office in New York City in 1982.
Thanks to being granted a federal banking license in 1984, UBA America now operates as a federal branch in North America.
